UKTI helps a British printed clothing business to launch in the US

A British digitally printed clothing company has expanded in the US with the help of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

Wiltshire-based husband and wife team Mike and Clare Brown founded D'arcy Brown, which creates printed clothes for babies and children.

After securing over 200 retail clients in the UK, including Harrods and Fortum & Mason, the couple opted to sign up for the UKTI Passport to Export scheme.

Mr Brown said: "We knew there was a gap in the market for this type of children's clothing, particularly in the US."

"At times it was frustrating because although we knew there was a lot of potential to take our clothes into new markets," he added, "we also knew that as a young business we simply didn't have the knowledge and experience to do this."

The scheme provided advice and support to launch the business in the US, including the arrangement of a marketing visit to a children's printed clothing exhibition in New York.
